Welcome to our country pub and restaurant.
Open all day every day for breakfast, brunch, lunch, light snacks, dinner and Sunday lunch
Situated in the quintessential English village of Matfield, in the heart of rural Kent, our unique Grade II listed building is steeped in history and offers a relaxing ambience with a few quirky twists.
We have chosen to call ourselves The Poet, after the famous war poet Siegfried Sassoon who was born just a stone’s throw from the pub. We felt having a local link with our name also reflected our passion to support and promote all things local. We strive to offer dishes which encompass as many local elements as possible. We can trace the provenence of everything we use.
If you’re thinking of having a private party, school reunion, or want to impress business clients, give us a call and our in-house team will take away the stress of organization and ensure you have the perfect event. Our restaurant has a wide range of flexible dining and event areas to suit groups of all sizes.
Sunday, 26th May - The Poet Garden Party with live music, BBQ, Pimms and sunshine (although not guaranteed !)
