    Situated in the quintessential English village of Matfield, in the heart of rural Kent, our unique Grade II listed building is steeped in history and offers a relaxing ambience with a few quirky twists.

     

    We have chosen to call ourselves The Poet, after the famous war poet Siegfried Sassoon who was born just a stone’s throw from the pub. We felt having a local link with our name also reflected our passion to support and promote all things local. We strive to offer dishes which encompass as many local elements as possible. We can trace the provenence of everything we use.
